Experimental

Turn a PowerPoint into a reviewed SCORM 1.2 course

This experimental converter turns basic text, shapes, unrotated nested groups, and PNG/JPEG images into a reviewed SCORM 1.2 ZIP. It excludes hidden slides, notes, and comments; detected unsupported graphics, animations, and active content block export. Fonts and inherited text styles are approximations that require review, not pixel-identical PowerPoint rendering.

Inspect a presentation

Inspect basic text, simple shapes, unrotated nested groups, and PNG/JPEG images in unencrypted Transitional PPTX files. This is a structural approximation, not a PowerPoint screenshot: fonts and inherited text styles can differ, and unsupported graphics block export.

How the structural conversion works

  1. 1

    Inspect the source

A device Worker checks ZIP headers, XML limits, relationships, visibility, media signatures, and the declared PowerPoint family.

  2. 2

    Review the model

The preview and ordered text alternative use the same normalized slide model. Blockers remain visible and cannot be waived.

  3. 3

    Package the learner course

After every slide is reviewed, the browser assembles one SCO, a local player, the learner model, and referenced original media.

Supported in this first slice

  • Text: source order, common emphasis, alignment, bullets, placeholder geometry, and text alternatives.
  • Drawing: rectangles, rounded rectangles, ellipses, straight lines, rotation, flips, and bounded nested groups.
  • Images: original PNG/JPEG media with dimensions and author-reviewable descriptions.
  • Player: contents, previous/next, text view, resume state, explicit Finish course, and no score or mastery claim.

Boundaries to know

  • Initial limits are 50 MiB compressed, 50 slides, 500 objects per slide, and 16 nested group levels.
  • Charts, SmartArt, equations, tables, OLE, custom geometry, animations, and playback media block packaging.
  • Fonts are mapped to a small safe catalog; browser wrapping can differ from PowerPoint and needs author review.
  • The export is experimental. It is not pixel-identical PowerPoint rendering, universal LMS compatibility, accessibility certification, or proof that learners understood the course.

Privacy and release status

In this repository-backed first slice, the selected file, XML, media, model, and export stay in the browser tab and its device Worker; no upload endpoint, storage, analytics payload, or remote learner dependency is used by the feature. Reloading or closing the tab loses the authoring session. The later hosted pilot boundary from the implementation plan still needs a separately deployed authenticated compiler, admission controls, native Worker evidence, independent ZIP/XSD validation, and Moodle plus SCORM Cloud testing before any release claim changes.
